I’m new to analyzing bioinformatics data using MEGAN7. If you could help me, I would like to ask if the date of megan-nr-r2.zip is the same from nr.gz showed at NCBI site Index of /blast/db/FASTA what is 2024-02-07 10:05, with 186G size. Or is there some difference?
One curiosity: I was analyzing a .daa file using MEGAN6, and more than 120 contigs were unclassified. I was surprised when I used MEGAN7 and half were categorized in some taxonomy. So, I will be using MEGAN7 because it contains the most up-to-date data from taxonomy categories.
The NR database version is not the same as the one currently shown on the NCBI FTP site. We try to perform an annual update, and if I remember correctly, the NR version used to create this mapping is one version older.
You can find the exact NR version used on our website. It is from January of the same year. After that, NCBI stopped providing the NR FASTA file in the same way.
We are currently preparing a new update, which should be available within the next few weeks. This update will use the NR database from this year.
Hi, Anupam!
Thank you for your response! I did question about it because I did not find the date anywhere. So, for now, I will consider 2024 (January). Thanks!
And I really think it is TRULY AMAZING that you are preparing a new update! I’m really looking forward to the community edition being available, because I cannot afford to pay for the deluxe.
Best regards! And thank you for all the amazing work you do!
