How MEGAN normalizes the data

Hello,
I have been using MEGAN for quite a while now for my 16s metagenomic data. Recently I have been using the compare option to generate the comparison analysis but I dont understand how the MEGAN normalizes the data. Kindly help me with this problem, I will be very much thankful to you.

The number of reads of each sample is normalized to be the same as the smallest sample in the comparison

Hello Daniel,

Thank you for your kind reply. so does megan pick the reads randomly for normalization or is there a specific method ?

There is no resampling of reads, the number of reads assigned to a specific node is subjected to the following calculation:
divide by current sample size, then multiple by smallest sample size
