Attributes bug in Megan5 v.5.10.6 on mac

Dear Megan Team

I currently started using MEGAN5 program for analysis of a metatranscriptomic dataset. During this I would like to make some attributes to the sample names so that I can distinguish the different conditions from each other. When trying to do so the program gives me an alert messages. “Execute failed: line 1: ‘;’ excepted, got ‘attibute’.
I am using MEGAN5 v. 5.10.6 on a Mac computer.

Is there a way that I can fix this.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Dear Morten,

where you using the Sample Viewer? Could you upload the messages that appear in the Message Window so that I can see what the problem is?

Thanks Daniel

Dear Daniel

Thanks for your answer. Yes I was using the sample viewer.

Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Dear Morten, I am assuming that you selected New… from the menu or a context menu to create a new attribute?
I can’t reproduce the problem…

Also, have you taken a look at MEGAN6 yet? It has been under development for some time and we will officially release it soon. I mention this because one of the features of MEGAN6 is a completely new sample viewer that should make adding attributes and working with metadata much easier… (available here:
